About this riding club
SOMÈS SADDLE has its origins in harness and saddlery making.
Utashinai in Hokkaido once flourished as a coal-mining city with a population approaching 50,000.
However, as energy use shifted to oil, the population declined.
Against this backdrop, SOMÈS SADDLE was established in 1964 as part of an initiative to attract new businesses.
Horses and the craft of harness making had supported the development of Hokkaido since the Meiji era.
The aim was to protect and pass on these skills and create saddlery capable of competing in the global market.
Craftspeople gathered here, beginning a new challenge to reach the highest standards.
