About this riding club
The history of Somes Saddle begins with saddlery, a craft that supported the development of Hokkaido from the Meiji era onward.
Utashinai, a city that prospered through coal mining, grew to a population of nearly 50,000.
However, its population declined as energy use shifted to oil. Against this background, Somes Saddle was established in Hokkaido in 1964 as part of an effort to attract new businesses.
The company began with the aim of preserving and passing on saddlery skills and making horse tack competitive in the global market. Today, everything from small leather goods to bags is handmade by skilled artisans, with planning, production, sales and repairs handled in-house. Note: The Somes Saddle Co., Ltd. Daimaru Kobe store closed on Sunday, February 21, 2016.
