About this riding club

Somes Saddle’s origins lie in saddlery.
Utashinai in Hokkaido once prospered as a coal-mining town with a population approaching 50,000.
However, its population declined as energy use shifted to oil.
Against this background, Somes Saddle was founded in 1964 as part of an initiative to attract new businesses.
Horses and saddlery skills had supported Hokkaido’s development since the Meiji era.
The aim was to preserve and pass on those skills and create horse tack competitive in the global market.
Saddlery artisans gathered here, beginning a new challenge to reach the top of their craft.
